The Beffi Triptych: Preserving Abruzzo’s Cultural Heritage, on view in the West Building’s Rotunda
The National Gallery of Art presents The Beffi Triptych: Preserving Abruzzo’s Cultural Heritage, on view in the West Building’s Rotunda June 15 through September 7, 2009. The first work of art to be transported out of Abruzzo, Italy, in the aftermath of the violent earthquake struck the region on April 6, the triptych is one of the most important works from the National Museum of Abruzzo in the city of L’Aquila .The Italian government has loaned the altarpiece for display at the National Gallery of Art in gratitude to the United States for being among the first to offer assistance to the region after the earthquake and as testimony to the Italian commitment to restore fully the cultural heritage of the region.
