The Festa Italiana Foundation presents Festa Italiana 2009, the eleventh annual Italian street festival Sunday, June 28, 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. As always, the festival will provide traditional entertainment, fabulous food, family fun, great raffle prizes and much more. This year’s festa features the Puglia region, on the southeastern coast of the Adriatic Sea . Everyone is welcome and admission is free.
Held at Third and F Streets, N.W., this Italian festa, the only one in downtown D.C., distinguishes itself from others in the area by focusing on Italian and Italian-American heritage and culture. The event traditionally opens officially with a procession led by the Pastor of Holy Rosary Church. Festival-goers will have a great time while being offered the chance to learn some Italian words and phrases, taste authentic food, observe Italian arts and crafts, and enjoy live performances by noted Italian-American artists.
This year Moreno Fruzzetti brings us traditional Italian melodies as well as popular music; also scheduled are soprano Beatrice Gilbert and “Bel Duetto” from Ohio . Street performers will delight young and old alike with magic, juggling, and stilt walking. The festa promises something for everyone, including family-friendly activities designed especially for children. Many activities will take place indoors in Casa Italiana. Italian sausage and pepper sandwiches, calamari, gelato, pizza, cannoli, tiramisu, beer, wine, soda, water, espresso and pasta specialties from Puglia will be available to purchase.
Attendees will have an opportunity to win many exciting raffle prizes, including a 7-day Caribbean Cruise on Costa Cruise Lines, a weekend stay for up to six people at a condo in Deep Creek in Oakland, Maryland, certificates to fine Italian restaurants and markets, tickets to various theatres and sports venues, items representative of Italian culture including those of the Puglia region, and other great prizes.
