THE BEFFI TRIPTYCH LEAVES THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART
The National Gallery of Art bids farewell as The Beffi Triptych departs Washington, DC for the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, followed by the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, CA. The first work of art to be transported out of Abruzzo, Italy, in the aftermath of the violent earthquake struck the region on April 6, 2009, the triptych is one of the most important works from the National Museum of Abruzzo in the city of L’Aquila.
The Italian government has loaned the altarpiece for display at the National Gallery of Art in gratitude to the United States for being among the first to offer assistance to the region after the earthquake and as testimony to the Italian commitment to restore fully the cultural heritage of the region.
