Tomorrow night, Tuesday, February 17th, marks the national television premiere of The Italian Americans, a public television documentary series created by WETA and produced and written by John Maggio.
We at the National Italian American Foundation have had the real pleasure of being media partners on this documentary for the past year and a half and I write to you today, our members and supporters, not only with a recommendation, but with a request. I ask that you take the time to turn on your television and encourage your friends and family to do the same. First and foremost, so that those in public media understand that there is an audience for Italian American content, but far more importantly because I truly feel that what you are about to watch is a seminal moment in Italian American history.
For the first time, with this four hour series, our community has a succinct, genuine, and effective tool for sharing our story with future generations. For decades we have fought the portrayals that others have created of us, and now we have our own to share with the world. I hope you enjoy these four hours as much as I have, and I hope they become for you and your family an ever present reminder and heirloom of our shared Italian American experience! – In Partnership,
John M. Viola , President and COO
